international calls
My wife called from Jakarta in the evening (8:30pm) from the stored number in her phone and then suddenly she hears 2 people having sexual intercourse! Obviously she is very upset and jumping to conclusions as women do. I called my local phone carrier, Telstra and they tell me they don’t have records of all incoming calls. (I find that hard to believe as the police would need to know such information and I’m sure the phone carriers would have this).
Has this happened to anyone else or even possible?

Yes, it can happen, and is particularly likely if she was calling from a cordless phone or on a call connected through a network or switchboard (ie., in a large office or hotel.) Crossed lines are rare these days – interference from the sources I stated above are much more common, but I am not familiar with Indonesia’s phone providers. Maybe they still have things like this happen commonly.

As far as Telstra keeping records of incoming calls, what the operator told you was correct. Records of calls are primarily only stored for billing purposes, therefore it is not neccessary to chronicle calls made to you. Whilst it may be possible for calls to be traced backwards, this would be a long and time-consuming process outside of the powers of customer service representatives. In instances of criminal investigations, liasons are required between companies to most efficiently identify who has been calling whom. On top of this, the interferance in your call is not the result of a direct connection, and investigation of this would be all but fruitless.

Sorry that I couldn’t give you any way of following this up further.
