The director called me to be the lead part again and again, and after the audtion was over he asked me to do it one more time with him, with one of the best actresses at my school. Not getting a callback for my play confused me a bit.

Not necessarily.
Callback are used when two or more people are good enough to play one roll. The callback gives the director a chance to see the relationship the possible actors will have with other members of the cast.
It is likely that you where so good the roll has been given to you and callbacks are not needed. Or the callback already happened when you were asked to preform the part repeatedly with different actors.
Not getting a callback means one of two things: either you’ve already been cast in whatever part, or you didn’t get a part.
It sounds like they did some callbacks the day of the audition. I would guess, then, that they may just be calling back the people they’re iffy about, or those they don’t know where to place.
Fear not, you’ll know for sure in a few days.
Sometimes you never find out. That’s part of being an actor.
When Les Miz came to Canada, I sent in my resume. I heard absolutely nothing from them – not even notice of the cattle call auditions. Then I get a call asking me to come to the FINAL callbacks.
A lot went wrong at that audition, and I actually walked out.
The next year, I got a call asking me to come out to the auditions for Phantom of the Opera. The same casting director!
I went through a lot. The first audition was when I had the flu – and I passed out. I ended up at the final callbacks a few weeks later. They heard me sing a few bars and then they made me wait and wait and wait, saying they might want to see me work with other people…and then they sent me home without hearing me again.
I got a part. And the casting agent told me they had made the decision at the FIRST audition, the one where I passed out. They didn’t know WHAT part they were going to give me, but they knew they wanted me in the show.
You can’t tell from an audition. You really can’t. You just do your best and stay focused.
