2) actually they probably pay for the call to the 712 number…
Try to find a DSL provider who includes free phone calls. There should be some in UK. Here in France we have several providers (Free, Neuf, etc.), for the price of a fast DSL connection (20Mb/s) they give a fast internet connection
plus free phone calls to USA and 20 to 40 other countries. This should exist in UK too.
