Should I have to pay 125 BT landline installation charge as a TENANT? Is there any other software rather than Hotspotshield to make voip calls from Dubai?
cheap long distance call
Will be traveling to Maui for a week. Need to call back home to Boston and dont want to use the phone in the hotel which is a rip off. Is there a local telephone company in Hawaii that will provide a reasonably priced service?

do it over the computer. A great site is at If they have a computer it is free, if not, it does not cost that much for a years service.

Since you obviously have a computer…

The cheapest way to call would definately have to be by using a service such as VoipStunt. They offer unlimited free calling to any U.S. telephone number (landline or cellphone) through the internet. I use it, and I guarantee that it is 100% free. All that you need is a microphone, speakers, their software and an internet connection.

If you have a laptop with internet w/ you, you could use the “Yahoo Messenger w/ Voice”, and it’s free.

Each time I go, I learn a new trick to save money. They do have cell phone towers on all major islands (Maui, Kauai’i, O’ahu, Hawaii). If you have nationwide calling, it’ll work in Hawaii. Also, calling cards will work from any payphone. Sam’s or Wal*Mart have these for 3c per minute. If you call from a payphone using a card, they’ll nick you another 50c but its still lots cheaper than the hotel surcharge. Aloha!!

It is still the USA. Same phone service we have here. My biggest mistake there was when someone asked me where I was from I said USA. They got mad and said “We are the USA too”.

if you can get cheap internet access, then you can use an instant messagner with voice (e.g., Yahoo messenger or apple ichat) or a VOIP app like Skype… in terms of absolute cost, a computer-to-computer connection time is free as long as you get internet access… (you’ll want a set of small headphones)… with something like skype you can use their skype out feature and call computer-to-phone

There’s a lot of different calling cards available in Hawaii. I usually pick one up at local “mom-and-pop” stores. It may look suspicious but they’re great.

If you have a cell phone there is no extra charge to call the mainland from Hawaii. The only charges you would run up are for the minutes used. If you don’t run over your allocation on minutes the call is basicaly free.

My Cingular service works all over Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai.
