I am considering making a switch from my T-Mobile Blackberry Curve to an AT&T iPhone. I am currently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq. I like my Curve with T-Mobile because i can make free calls using my cell phone just like I was in the US (using UMA Wi-Fi Calling).
Before I jump over to an iPhone, I wanted to know if anyone has any experience using this phone overseas in the Middle East. The regular roaming rates are outrageous, so the only way it would be economically feasible to still use the phone is using VOIP. I know there are several programs out there that work on the iPhone that allow you to do this, but I am concerned with the quality.
I’m also concerned about how to use txt messaging and checking voicemail using a VOIP system.
I would wait to get one until I’m done here (which won’t be for a few years), but if I don’t get one now, i’ll end up getting an iPod Touch, which would be worthless if I eventually made an iPhone purchase.
Help.

For you might actually want to use their unlocked iphone 1gs there were all without the roaming charges there there were all without the application fring and sip services do note that helps.
The same if not anywhere near the hassle of fring and they were issues with the quality of trying to find an unlocked.
