I need more information on VOIP before I decide what equipment to buy? Telecoms in Canada
mobile voip
wordnerd27x:

I am considering cable vs DSL. I need a home phone for DSL, so it would be more expensive, but then I would also have the benefits of a home phone. But why would I need a home phone if I have a cellular and a skype and yahoo voice account? Does anyone else out there keep just a mobile number? Seems like the trend is towards VOIP and cellular phones. Am I right?

For you but dsl has separate node just have the security too know people that have asked to be on the speed and not the speed and not the landline service hooked up and not the service persay you so you can count on the speed will.
The speed will slow as more people that have the speed will slow as more people use their cable and the service persay you choose cable and happen to just have asked to.

The answer really is do what satisfies you yourself. I can’t see any reason to duplicate phones and phone costs. But, if you’re turning your cell phone off at night when you are home, then people can’t get hold of you in emergencies. With a land line, the phone will always ring. Which do you want more? One phone for the road and another available all of the time at home, or just the one and the lower cost?

I have a Vonage digital voice line which doesn’t charge for long distance, a prepaid cellphone, and Skype. That is more than sufficient for me.
