Question by afri_rican1976: Can a job find out if you are using VOIP or a landline phone?
I am set to start a new job working from home and she asked me if I had a landline phone. I currently have VOIP through my cable provider and I love it! Is there anyway that they will be able to tell if I am using the VOIP instead of a landline phone? I only need to use it until 2 weeks from now. That is when the landline phone will be installed.
I will be taking inbound customer service calls. I just want to know if they will know.

Just because you are using VoIP doesn’t mean that you are running a business.
They won’t find out if they look through the lookup.
Don’t worry.
The guy that mentions about look up never tried it on VoIP and being a smarty pant.
The reason VoIP “drop” are dues to internet or computer system problem. I am using Skype and I don’t find any problem with it.
GHETTO, you been reported for spamming.

Just wanted to do a little comparison, I had both of them and I think Landline sounds clearer, and it works when the power goes out. Then there’s VOIP which saves you a lot of money and gives you all the calling features, but the sound quality isn’t as clear as landline. Also VOIP will not work when the power goes out. Overall, which is considered to be more reliable?

With any VOIP service, you connect a small device unit that you get from the VOIP. You will connect this small device to your router by a ethernet cable. Then on the device unit there is a small phone jack on the unit. From there you connect a regular telephone line to your a phone (home phone). You won’t use any connection from any telephone wall jacks.
So when you get a call to your Voip phone number, your home phone will ring and you can answer using that phone.

yes, this is true. The reason probably that they feel that the voip phones are not as secure, and as you will probably be handling sensitive information, they prefer that it is over a land line. Additionally, they do not allow cell phones or wireless land phones.

It depends what you mean.
If you mean a phone that plugs into a phone line or a VOIP adapter, such as a Vonage box or MagicJack, there is no difference.
Now, you can get VOIP specific phones, which have the VOIP adapter built in, and plug into the wall with Ethernet cable, or use Wi-Fi to connect to a VOIP service.
