I have a laptop that I want to basically make a cell phone. I always have Wi-Fi so VoIP/SIP seems like the best option. I want to be able to have free calls to landlines and other softphones. Do you know a service that would allow me to do this? (It usually doesn’t matter, but I am running linux Ubuntu 8.04)

Skype…for three bucks/month though. I use it on my windows laptop.

I would like to purchase a 2 yr contract for Verizon National Broadband access for my laptop using their USB wireless modem/card and would like to be able to make mobile phone calls using their VoIP service, Voice Wing by Verizon Wireless. Is there anything especially in terms of the consent of Verizon that would prevent my doing this?

Sure you can.. But don’t forget about the fun new Bluetooth option you have as well. Check into Verizon Bluetooth!

I need to connect an Ethernet cable from my laptop to my VOIP adapter and bridge the wireless Internet to feed Internet to my VOIP adapter.
Is it possible?

much easier to get the usb wireless dongle for your laptop. Micro Center has them online, I picked up one at Walmart for a few $$ more.
I stayed at lots of motels that provided free internet, it worked great.
