My husband is in the Navy and going on his first deployment to Bahrain and I am worried about being able to talk to him. I dont want to spend a fortune on international calling. Does anyone know the best way to go about making international calls for the cheapest price? I already checked with ATT (my service) and the cheapest deal is 3.99/mo and .68 per min! That’s expensive!

Also, he said he will prob just buy an international calling card but, how does that work? If he uses the calling card to call my cell, will it just be cheap for him but charge me a boatload for an international call? I’m confused….. And i HAVE to talk to him, at least a few times a week…..

hey! thanks so much for the responses. You guys cleared things up for me about it. Best bet is using calling cards. I just got my first phone call from him 15min ago and he used his calling card. now, he’s leaving tomorrow and will be on a ship! I wonder if they have internet on the ship…. ?

I want to call my girlfriend in Brunei from the United States. I have 700 minutes a month from Verizon. So if I talk to her for 100 minutes on a calling card, will the 100 minutes only come off the calling card balance, or will the minutes also be deducted from my Verizon balance? Please help me! I’ve never made an international call or used a phone card before!

Its been a while since i have been looking for a cheap solution to call Philippines. I have done a lot of search on internet and the best rate i could like is 11 cents a minute for Philippines mobile.
Using that i can make a phone call from my PC- Philippines anywhere. I would just like to ask all of you here, if you have any suggestions.The limitations are that their is internet on just my end not in Philippines at my recipients side. What do all you use to call philippines ?
M calling from US, and smithing cheaper then 11cents per minute.

if someone calls me from mexico, do i get charged for receiving the phone call??? i have no international calling service.

I have an aunty in the USA who lives in New Mexico, i live in England. from about June 07 – May 08 i have been using my 3 Network Pay As You Go Mobile Phone to call my Aunt’s USA landline, 3 Network had a really good deal in that you pay £15.00 for an international saver voucher and this gives you unlimited time for the 30 days (month), for no extra cost. so i used to buy this, talk to her for about an hour per day and it didnt cost me anything on-top of the £15 that i paid for the voucher.

Well, i was unable to have it for a few months from May – August and tonight i go to put £15 on my phone to buy the voucher and the voucher HAS GONE and is no longer available, 3 company said “Oh you have to have a contract now to get it”, NO.

I was quite happy with the voucher, but no they had to get rid of it.

im devestated because i havent talked to my aunt for a few months, she must be worried by now we used to talk every single day…i just havent had that much money recently with this damn credit crunch rubbish, and now i cant even buy my voucher. from the 3 network it is 25p (£0.25) per MINUTE to call the USA from my mobile, thing is, that would be £15 for AN HOUR, we used to talk for an hour per DAY…i couldnt possibly afford to do this.

other than the stupid air-mail that takes 2 weeks to get there from here, getting another phone or whatever..what can i do?

i tried looking online for an access number thing ive found but, from my network its still 25p per minute even if i use the cheaper website access number…

i just dont know what the hell to do..

I dont own a landline or know anyone who does have a landline i guess mobiles are the way to go now, my internet doesnt even use a phone line…
I cant have a landline in my house well im not allowed coz i live with my parents but, also i dont want any kind of monthly fixed contract i have to pay each month…
Im not really requiring any free ringtones right now, i only use my phone for the usa and..well my aunty is 70 and has no internet anyway

So If I were to say I was in a different country but I had my cell phone, which was from houston, to call a friend that is in houston, would it be considered international? And What if it was a text?
Also, will it charge me AND the other person?
