My NAVY husband is going on deployment to Bahrain, how do we make cheap international calls? help! ?

My husband is in the Navy and going on his first deployment to Bahrain and I am worried about being able to talk to him. I dont want to spend a fortune on international calling. Does anyone know the best way to go about making international calls for the cheapest price? I already checked with ATT (my service) and the cheapest deal is 3.99/mo and .68 per min! That’s expensive!

Also, he said he will prob just buy an international calling card but, how does that work? If he uses the calling card to call my cell, will it just be cheap for him but charge me a boatload for an international call? I’m confused….. And i HAVE to talk to him, at least a few times a week…..

hey! thanks so much for the responses. You guys cleared things up for me about it. Best bet is using calling cards. I just got my first phone call from him 15min ago and he used his calling card. now, he’s leaving tomorrow and will be on a ship! I wonder if they have internet on the ship…. ?

I have AT&T at the moment and it’s quite expensive to be making international calls. Is there any pre-paid phones where you put like.. 200 minutes and use that to make international calls? Of course this would be the only thing I’d be using it for… Or even a cell phone provider like Metro PCS? I just need something where I can throw minutes on to use to call over seas.

I am from Sharjah(UAE) and want to use VOIP over mobile & computer. I am looking for dial2day and MobileDialer services and found it is best to call India… But I not getting that from where I can refile my account. I am not getting reseller of these services.
I am also looking for good and cheapest service to call from UAE to India and UAE to KSA..

Are you happy with it? I have Vonage now and this is sure alot cheaper..but is it worth it? I know there are no 911 capabilities but that is ok. It would be used mainly from mobile to pc and vice versa. Any help will be appreciated and my thanks in advance.
