Vonage – www.vonage.co.uk is a leading low rate VoIP provider for home & small business users. Make cheap phone calls using your phone and broadband. Got questions? You’re in the right place! We want to be as clear as we can about how Vonage works, how you use it, and what you can expect to pay. So here are some of the questions we get asked most frequently. Vonage is a low rate VoIP phone company. We offer cheap calls within the UK and around the world, all for a set monthly fee. Call plans start at just £5.99 a month. Instead of using a physical landline such as BT or Virgin, Vonage works by using your existing broadband connection. That’s why it’s so much cheaper. But you use Vonage just like you use the phone service you’ve got now. Once you’re set up, you carry on making and receiving calls just like you did before. Just pick up the phone, no headsets required, wait for the dialling tone, and then punch in the number. The only difference you’ll see will be in your bills, which will be much lower.

I have a web site that is good introduction to getting started using VoIP. It’s called CQ VoIP Call. (link in my profile)

I use InPhonex as my primary VoIP home phone service.
But there are many to choose from. Everyone has a different experience with the different service providers. So, who is best is really kind of luck of the draw.
No matter what service you get, some people will love it, and others will hate it……

Yes, you can use that router with the cable modem, Vonage, and Xbox Live. Since its a wireless router, you can use the wired or wireless options. If wireless, you will need one of the Xbox wireless adapters.

Question by Stecha: How to secure the voip (vonage) router which is connected to the primary netgear router.?

I ve got a voip service called vonage which comes with a wireless router. This must be connected to Lan 1 of the Netgear router which provides internet so I can make phone calls through internet. The problem is that I do not know how to put a wep key to the vonage router(DLink) so that no one else can have access to my internet connection. Notice that the Netgear Router has an encrypted key and it comes with Virgin Broadband. However even if the first is encrypted the second is unsecured and anyone can have access.

Best answer:

Answer by mrjaw14
I would disable the wireless radio in the router for Vonage. But if you want to use it for wireless internet access, then you type in a passphrase word in your router config page and it should generate a WEP key for you. If your router doesn’t do that, google a wep passphrase generator and you’ll type in a work, such as “what” and it’ll generate a wep keep based on that passphrase word. you’ll copy and past that into your router, and you’ll keep a copy of the exact same key in a document so you can copy and past it into other computers that need access….don’t try to write it down, it’s a loooooonnngggg number. I have a document that I keep on a flash drive that i take around to the computers I need to service.

If you need help getting into your router, consult the manual. usually you open a browser and type in the default IP address (usually 192.168.0.1) then type in a user name and password. Usually the user name is Admin or Administrator, and the password might be admin administrator or just blank

Hi, I need some advice/HELP with this: –

I’m just starting a new business with 2 other people. We want one number (if possible) that customers will ring and calls to be forwarded to 5 or 6 other numbers. So we have been looking at a VOIP service with Vonage. We would like it to work like this: –

A customer rings 01270123456 (Vonage number)
the call comes in and it is forwarded to 3 other 01270 numbers (non-vonage) and 3 mobiles. We don’t mind if there is a certain order they ring, but it would be good if they could all ring at the same time and whoever answers accepts the call.

We have been told however than once the call is accepted the line would then be engaged for any other customers ringing us and we would also not be able to ring out over the vonage service. The only way around this as we can see is to have another line with a different number that forwards the calls to the same set of phones??? This means then however giving customers multiple numbers.

IDEALLY we would want 1 number and the line NOT to be engaged once we answer/make a call.

With normal BT lines it is possible to have multiple lines with the same number, is this not possible with the Vonage VOIP service? OR any other service either VOIP or not????

Can anybody PLEASE help me with this, i would REALLY appreciate your thoughts/ideas.

Thanks!
This needs to be a UK service too so that we can get a number in the UK.

Best answer:

Answer by Hise
Ooma depends directly on Broadband speed. So if your doing other things like downloading it will be slow. While Vonage is the same and depends on it as well, it is less dependent. It just depends on your DSL quality.
