mac-voip-chat.com – Mac-Gizmo tests out iPevo’s SO-20 Wireless Skype phone. A roaming Wi-Fi cordless VOIP hand set that’s letting me make and take calls in the cabin and out in the yard. With a special version of Skype built into the OS – my existing Skype contact list (already from my Apple Mac setup) is available once I connect to my router and log in. With low-cost pay-per-minute or flat-rate monthly calling plans, I can enjoy long distance at a fraction of my local telco rates. After puzzling through the all too brief Quick-Start guide, I eventually figured out how to connect to my Wi-Fi router, enter my Skype ID and password. Documentation is a little skimpy. But once set up – it’s pretty much set it and forget it simple to call direct or choose from my Skype contact list. That easy. PS I forgot to mention the Ipevo phone also has a standard headset jack on the side – and that NO software installation is needed – it’s all built into the phone.

I’m pretty sure that incoming calls just count against your minutes (it’s kind of like when international people make calls to landlines, it only charges the caller, not the receiver). Just be sure, though, I would call Verizon just to verify the information.

I have a D-Link 4 port wireless router. Right now, all 4 ports are occupied by 2 PCs, a networked hard drive and print server. I need to add 2 VoIP modems (from SunRocket). What do I need to buy? A switch or another router? What setup do you suggest? Thanks in advance for your help!
Best answer:
Answer by Shawntel R
Buy a 4 port switch. Remove one wire from the lan side of the router and attach it to a port on the switch. Attach the two VoIP modems to the switch. Attach a cable from the upload port on the switch (there may be a button to press on the switch to convert a port to upload, depends on manufacture and model)to the now open port on the router.
That will extend your networking capabilities

I have Tivo service and I don’t want to install a router. I have VOIP through wireless internet provider. What cable or equipment would I need to plug my tivo into something & dial up via voip? I have not seen an internet phone with an extra rj11 hook-up.

This wont work. I use Packet8 VOIP and I tried this. The Tivo DVR uses an analog modem and cannot connect over a digital VOIP connection.

AT&T Wireless has announced an aggressive offer which will
eliminate cellular roaming charges for many of its customers.
This offer is made possible because of the company’s doubling of
its national GSM coverage area in the past year, which is now
approximately 1.2 million square miles in the United States.
During the past year AT&T has has improved and/or added 15,000
cell sites. Major improvements have also been made in its GSM
network, according to AT&T Wireless, in a recent news release
These very positive changes will benefit cell phone users
throughout the country, who have been paying hefty cellular
phone roaming charges, once out of their coverage area. This has
always been a major source of dissatisfaction with mobile phone
users for many years. All AT&T Wireless customers can enroll in
this new national plan, which is called GSM America, together
with existing customers who are on one of the company’s
qualifying GSM plans. Wireless phone users can automatically
benefit by paying no roaming charges anywhere in the United
States. As long as these customers are using a wireless data
service, they no longer have to worry about paying for roaming
charges when they place their calls. This is not only great news
for cellular phone customers but also for business customers.
Large businesses whose employees have to travel for work, can
now use their wireless date applications anywhere they travel.
Not only do they have more coverage areas, but they also incur
lower costs for their company. In addition to expanding its
coverage area, AT&T Wireless has also vastly improved the
quality of their GSM network and they have installed hardware
and software which allows customers to enjoy superior wireless
calling communication, through new GSM devices which generate a
stronger signal, travel over a larger area and penetrate walls
far better and more efficiently. These network improvements have
enhanced calling quality in many of the large major cities in
the country. These upgrades have led to increases in signal
strength of almost double and the audio quality of calls is
vastly improved. Unlike before, where signals were very often
poor or non-existent inside buildings, it is now being reported
that calls are coming through loud and clear from inside
buildings. In order for mobile phone customers to enjoy the
larger GSM service area and the superior network quality, all
new devices which AT&T Wireless introduces this year will be 850
compatible. The latest Motorola V600 camera phone will also be
compatible. The new AT&T Wireless GSM American national plan
will allow cellular customers to take advantage of the benefits
of the larger and more improved GSM coverage area. For as little
as .99 per month, customers can enjoy 450 anytime minutes
each month and they will not have to pay roaming or domestic
long distance charges. In addition to these great services,
customers will get free unlimited mobile to mobile calls on
AT&T’s Wireless GSM network. If customers wish to choose a
slightly more expensive cellular phone plan, they can get
unlimited evening and weekend calling, starting at 7:00pm. For
those customers who make most of their calls from their home
coverage area, they can choose a local version of the AT&T
Wireless GSM American plan that suits their needs.

Wireless Voip – Major Advantages for Business

Wireless VoIP combines VoIP with Internet wireless (802.11b and successors) networks. And its potential for businesses and individuals will see huge growth over the next few years and this article will explain what wireless VoIP could do for you.
Two combinations of hardware and software make this work: laptops with wireless connections and VoIP soft phones, or handheld computers, again with wireless connections and soft phones.
The deployment of wireless VoIP looks set for huge growth over the coming years, for the following reasons:
1. Cost
The advantage of Wireless VoIP over cellular connections has driven the majority of interest in this method of communication so far.
Reduced costs for calls combined with higher-bandwidth data transfers are two obvious advantages. These however not the only reasons to adopt Wireless VoIP systems.
2. Deployment
WiFi networks cost a fraction of the deployment of traditional cell tower technology and implementation is quick as the extensive site reviews required to install traditional radio towers is not required ensuring deployment is cost effective and quick.
3. Call Quality
Wireless VoIP can also dramatically improve call quality, especially in residential areas such as office blocks; basements etc where traditional mobile network coverage is can be patchy. The advantage of having reliable wireless VoIP systems with excellent coverage are obvious, staff can be in touch in more areas more often.
]]>
4. Working practices
Perhaps one of the biggest advantages from a corporate point of view is the way wireless VoIP changes working patterns once all employees have access to wireless VoIP soft phones, laptops and hand held computers.
As the workforce moves to be more flexible and geographically spread out, VoIP employees can move from mobile networks to WiFi-based home and office networks, meaning they can be in touch wherever they are. This means companies can have employees working from a range of places including:
home, or even another country where labour costs are cheaper. The 21st century is already seeing a move to more flexible working practices in companies and wireless VoIP will be major contributor to this revolution.
5. Management
Wireless VoIP offers potential savings by allowing companies to change the way they manage their phone systems. For example, instead of having voicemail, caller ID and e-mail separately, wireless VoIP will allow customers to retrieve all of their messages in one place, alleviating the problem of having different operators for different services.
Employees can also download, enabling them to turn their phones into portable computers, track information, or log onto the company’s internet connection.
There are obvious time and cost savings as all communications are standardized in single VoIP telephone system. This means greater flexibility, reduced billing and tracking complexity.
Fact is, wireless VoIP saves time and money leading to simpler management and greater operational efficiency.
Major Growth Expected In mobile VoIP
Of course, at the moment, wireless VoIP is in its infancy and soft phones are only available for desktops and laptops.
Once reliable, roaming-friendly networks are rolled out and WiFi enabled handset technology becomes more advanced, prices fall and connections are as easy to make as with standard cell phones, the wireless VoIP market will grow drastically in size.
Wireless VoIP is already being deployed by forward thinking companies and within ten years it is anticipated that wireless VoIP will be deployed by more and more companies attracted by the cost, flexibility and efficiency advantages.

When I first met the core creative group which consists of three guys and a girl I thought maybe they were bodyguards or something because all of the men are taller than I am, and I am 6’3″, one is closer to 7 …
